This is a true, ultralight Fox Sterlingworth 20ga. upland gun. Most will agree the Fox Sterlingworth 20ga. is the best value for a fine small gauge vintage American double in today’s marketplace bate. Built on a tiny 20ga. frame (therefore lighter than like guns from Parker, L.C. Smith, or Ithaca), dynamically balanced… the Sterlingworth is still an affordable field and clays gun with the handling and shooting characteristics of a much more expensive gun. The American double gun world loves the Fox shotgun. Just try and find a decent 20ga. in any grade. There are few offered for sale, and for good reason. The A.H. Fox 20 bore has been described as the “most perfectly proportioned 20ga.” boxlock ever made and it is true. I have a treasure here; a 1927 Philly Sterlingworth, sn259294, that has over 95% factory case color, 98% factory barrel blue, 35% factory charcoal blue trigger guard, 28″ #3 weight barrels choked IC/M with mirror bores, great wood with factory butt plate. The mechanics are perfect, the barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face, the top lever is way right of center, perfect screws and wood-to-metal fit…this is an amazing little Fox Sterlingworth. PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 20GA. SHELLS. BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” HEAVY FIELD LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN. This is a $440 service in our shop. We also stripped the action to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed all parts to shiny metal, inspected all for integrity and function, lubricated and reassembled, providing a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, a $325 service in our shop. VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty providing confidence you are buying a fine shotgun that will provide years of service in the field. It is a delightful little bird gun that will appeal to both the collector and the upland hunter. It is the bird gun here in time for your pursuit of birds on the wing! If you are a shooter that expects to use his new Fox, finding a Fox Sterlingworth that has been completely reviewed and serviced by experts, is able to shoot modern ammunition, and has high factory original condition on the metal and wood refinished already so you don’t have to wait a year for your gun to come back is the perfect scenario! Fox 20ga. guns have become hard to find and will continue to grow in value as fewer and fewer are available to purchase. A great investment opportunity and delightful gun for your shooting pleasures. The gun needs nothing but a date at the range or to the uplands. THE PHOTOS SHOW SOME FRECKLING ON THE BARRELS THAT LOOKS WORSE IN THE PHOTOS THAN IN PERSON. THERE IS NO PITTING, JUST FRECKLING. THE FACTORY BLUE IS STRONG, SO WE LEAVE THE CHOICE TO REBLUE UP TO THE NEW OWNER. They look really good in person without the powerful strobe flash photography. Our gunsmith department can rust blue for you with no waiting in line. This is your chance…don’t hesitate or she will be gone! Thanks for looking.
