Vintage Firearms Inc is pleased to offer this clean, delightful, affordable upland gun from AyA, one of Spain’s premier gunmakers well known the world over for making solid, well finished guns.  From the AyA website: “The N° 4 has been AYA’s standard boxlock design since 1960. It is modelled on a Westley Richards boxlock action, brought to Spain by the King brothers. The Anson & Deeley action, the most famous of all boxlock designs, was created by two employees of Westley Richards in 1875, and ever since, Westley Richards guns have defined boxlock elegance”.  This fine upland gun is an AyA model No. 4 built in 1990, serial numbered 600974. Weighing 5 ¾ pounds, this handy side-by-side is balanced just ahead of the hinge pin.  The 27″ barrels are of the chopper lump design, long heralded as the very best method of joining the barrels and utilized mostly in “BEST GUNS” from the likes of Purdey and Holland & Holland. The barrels are tight on the hinge and face, have mirror bores, tight ribs, 90% blue, and are choked Mod and Full with 2 ¾” chambers, complete with well-timed ejectors. The receiver retains 85% factory bone and charcoal case color, it has hand chiseled borders and light scroll around the pins and screws and is in perfect mechanical condition with crisp double triggers, auto safety and perfect screws. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  IT HAS BEEN STRIPPED TO ITS SMALLEST PART, CLEANED IN THE ULTRASONIC CLEANER, EACH PART INSPECTED FOR INTEGRITY AND FUNCTION, PROPERLY LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED.  This is a $450 service in our shop.  The European Walnut has some figure and hand cut flat top checkering, the length of pull is 15” with the .80” pad.  VFI can alter this to your specification if required, please call to discuss. These are known to be highly reliable guns, and this one is nice and light and a joy to handle.  WE CONSIDERED REBLUING THE BARRELS AS THEY SHOW SOME WEAR, BUT INSTEAD LISTED THE GUN AT A BARGAIN PRICE FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR A GREAT UPLAND GUN THAT WILL BE USED HARD AND PREFER A GUN WITH HONEST WEAR AT A BETTER PRICE. If you want them rust blued to 100%, add $400 and a 5 week wait. This AyA Model 4 is priced affordably for a hand-engraved, hand-checkered gun-what’s not to like?  Ideal for the upland pursuits and the casual game of sporting clays.  Take it for a spin!
