General Specs: Fox, 1922, 16 Gauge, 6lbs. 10oz., Chokes F/F, LOP 14 1/8″, DAH 2 11/16″, DAC 1 7/16″ Serial Number: 301583 Ansley H. Fox created the smallest, most well-proportioned, most reliable of all the vintage American double shotguns. All Fox 16ga. guns were built on the 20ga. frame, one of the reasons these guns are in such demand and so hard to find in good condition. They only made about 1200 Fox A Grade 16 gauge guns with ejectors. Only a hand full were shipped with 30” barrels. The most desirable guns will have factory original parts, lots of the original factory finish, and sound barrels and mechanics. Buy the right gun and the value will increase as you enjoy its use, but how do you know “the right gun” when most offered for sale have poor photos, provide little information needed to make good decisions, and are being sold by unknown sellers. Many are a box of shells away from an expensive failure and finding an able doublegun smith is near impossible. Vintage Firearms removes the risk from your purchase by employing 4 gunsmiths to inspect, clean, repair if required, and service these vintage guns BEFORE WE SELL THEM. VFI has superior photographs so you can see what you are buying, full specifications so you know the gun is sound and fits your needs, and provides solid warranties to insure your gun operates properly. Having a multi-million-dollar inventory, a store front investment, and 10 employees who answer your phone call every time 6 days a week gives the confidence you need to buy your gun from VFI and not gamble with unknowns. This Philly Fox AE Grade, sn301583 made in 1922, has 75% original case color (thinning), excellent screws, 98% factory barrel blue, 98% factory charcoal blue on the trigger guard, and factory original wood that is 100% oil finished by VFI having superb wood-to-metal fit, excellent checkering, and no cracks. The gun is wearing a period correct NoShoc pad that likely came with the gun and is still pliable. The gun was shipped to California Hardware who famously supplied guns to the duck clubs of the Delta region with long barrels, tight chokes, recoil pads for heavy loads. PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 16GA. SHELLS. BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN. This is a $440 service in our shop. With RARE 30” number 3 weight barrels choked F/F, excellent bores, tight ribs, barrels tight on hinge pin and breech face, this gun is the ultimate vintage Fox gun for dove, turkey, waterfowl, late season pheasants, or a run at the traps. The gun has perfect screws, excellent mechanics, and the top lever that is well right of center. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, THE ACTION AND FOREND IRON HAVING BEEN STRIPPED TO THEIR SMALLEST PART, ULTRASONIC CLEANED, SCRUBBED, EACH PART INSPECTED FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED. This is a $450 service in our shot. Fox small bores in excellent factory original condition are difficult to find in today’s marketplace as there were so few made and the present owners won’t sell them. Because of this, prices have gone up significantly over the last few years and will continue to do so. What an attractive gun in great condition with no issues. We can make alterations to your specs within a short time after your purchase. See the specifications in the tables below. Thanks for looking!
