Anybody who has watched the vintage gun market realizes that the 16ga. Sterlingworth handling characteristics have been discovered, all built on the diminutive 20ga. frame making them lighter than most all other American built 16’s. The prices have gone up significantly with the nice 16ga. guns being bought up, thereby reducing the available guns on the market. Most will agree that the Fox Sterlingworth 16ga. is the best value for a small gauge vintage American double gun. Balanced delightfully dead on the hinge pin and weighing just 6 ¼ pounds, this gun was made for bird hunting! You would be hard pressed to find a better bargain for walking over hill and dale for upland pursuits…you will appreciate this Fox. It is ½ pound lighter than most Parker 16ga. guns! This Sterlingworth, sn370750 made in 1934 was built with a set of 26” number 3 weight barrels choked IC/M for your most versatile use. The barrels retain 95% factory blue, mirror bores, barrels tight on the hinge pin and breech face, ribs are tight, no dents. The action 50% factory case color turning dark, excellent screws, top lever right of center, trigger guard 30% factory blue turning mostly a pleasing silver/grey. The factory original wood has more figure than most Sterlingworth guns and has been restored by VFI with a high-quality hand-rubbed oil finish with excellent wood to metal fit and checkering. The mechanics are superb, THIS BEING A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, ACTION STRIPPED TO THE SMALLEST PARTS, ALL CLEANED IN THE ULTRASONIC CLEANER, SCRUBBED, ALL PARTS INSPECTED FOR INTEGRITY AND FUNCTION, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED, NOW CARRYING A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. IN ADDITION, THE CHAMBERS WERE CAREFULLY MEASURED BY OUR GUNSMITHS AND THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS SHOWING PLENTY OF EXTRA METAL, THE CHAMBERS WERE MADE TO BE 2 ¾” AND THE FORCING CONES EXTENDED TO 1 ½’ TAPERS THAT WILL REDUCE FELT RECOIL AND THROW BETTER PATTERNS. THIS ALLOWS THE USE OF READILY AVAILABLE MODERN AMMUNITION FOR THE FIELD OR CLAYS COURSE. The work done by VFI on this gun to include stock restoration, VFI Certification, and chambers/forcing cones would cost over $1600 in our shop. The gun now needs nothing for decades and is a good-looking gun ready for practice rounds getting ready for the upland season just around the corner. Keep this in mind when buying guns on the internet, as many guns haven’t been serviced in decades and are going to have troubles for the next owner and come with no guarantees. It is near impossible to find a good doublegun smith that isn’t backlogged over a year. YOU WANT TO BUY A GOOD GUN FROM A REPUTABLE, WELL-KNOWN SELLER THAT HAS SERVICED THE GUN FOR YOU IN ADVANCE. This eliminates risk and guarantees satisfaction. The gun has been used over the 91 years but has been well cared for. She even has the original butt plate. Priced affordably, it is a great bird or clays gun and will function flawlessly as you enjoy carrying a piece of American history. The specifications can be seen below. Thanks for looking!
