Here we have a solid field gun from a great English maker, Webley and Scott of Birmingham. This firm began its stint in 1906 and are still building fine British doubleguns at this date. Webley & Scott made more double shotguns than any other British firm and made guns that ran the gamut from simple field guns to beautifully engraved “BEST GUNS”. All the guns they produced are considered quality guns and have been well respected for over 100 years. This Model 720 Webley and Scott, sn140685 made in 1969, is a delightful example of what the English gun trade is noted for…building solid, lightweight, well-balanced guns that function for many decades with excellent, well-proven mechanics. THIS WEBLEY AND SCOTT IS SPECIAL AS IT RETAINS 99% AS NEW FACTORY FINISHES ON ALL METAL AND WOOD (A FEW FIELD MARKS IN THE WOOD), WEIGHS ONLY 5 ¾ POUNDS, BALANCES PERFECTLY ON THE HINGE PIN, HAS FACTORY 3” CHAMBERS, AND IS PROOFED FOR MAGNUM LOADS…A GREAT PHEASANT/WATERFOWL/TURKEY GUN AS WELL AS THE USUAL UPLAND GUN! This gun’s action and forend iron was stripped to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed, all parts inspected for integrity and function, lubricated, and reassembled, providing a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, a $450 service in our shop, and includes A 90-DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY. This gun has been completely vetted by VFI and needs nothing…she is ready for decades more service. Even though the gun appears near new, after 55 years on the planet having the action and forend iron cleaned and lubricated just makes sense. Built when British guns were still hand engraved, checkered, and fit, this Webley and Scott is old-school valuable and has handling dynamics you just won’t find in more modern side x side guns produced today on CNC machines. She is an elegant upland gun as well, with hand cut English scroll engraving, bold case color, rounded English walnut stock with English grip, and nicer wood than you will see on most guns in her price range. If you ever wanted a noted English double gun…the perfect upland gun, this is your chance. There are not many British doubles left that were hand engraved and checkered, hand-fit by the best in the business, still retaining factory new finishes, that were actually built in Birmingham. Most labeled as such today are built in Turkey, Spain, or Italy and labeled with an English maker’s name. This gun is housed in a classic canvas and leather case with trade label and all accessory items, a $750 value. See the specifications below. Thanks for looking!
