General Specs: Winchester, 1903, .45-90, 8lbs. 11oz., LOP 13 5/16″ Serial Number: 128274 I love the Winchester Deluxe special-order rifles. You can imagine the look on the cowboy’s face when the crate came with his new Winchester. The gorgeous wood, special ½ octagon barrel, shiny deep blued finishes, and fine checkering would bring jealous envy from all his friends. The Winchester Model 1886 was the first lever model that could handle the heavier cartridges and bullets for big game and longer-range shooting. Offered in a large variety of cartridges, it was a heavy rifle with a receiver milled from a single block of ordinance steel. Manufactured from 1886 through 1932 (160,000 total), you will find all manner of rifles, carbines, and muskets from standard models to special order “Winchester Extra Finish” rifles like this special Deluxe Rifle, sn128274 made in 1903. What a gorgeous example we have here, FULLY DOCUMENTED BY THE CODY FIREARMS MUSEUM in a factory letter (comes with the gun) noting the ½ octagon barrel chambered in the desirable .45-90 caliber, checkered pistol grip stock, oil finish, shotgun butt, Lyman front sight, AND DELIVERED AS A TAKEDOWN MODEL! This Model 1886 has a 26” barrel with full magazine tube and a bright shiny bore that is a 9.5 out of 10 on the scale. We removed the buttstock and photographed the assembly number and “XX” on the receiver tang and the matching assembly number on the inlet for the top tang on the wood, further documenting all parts original to the gun. THIS M1886 IS FACTORY ORIGINAL IN ALL WAYS, UNTOUCHED AND RETAINING 98% barrel and magazine tube blue, 80% dark blue on the action, 60% case color on lever, 90% case color on hammer, and most all the finish on the wood with light handling marks. A tiny fraction of Model 1886’s were produced as “Deluxe Takedown Rifles” and as such are remarkable, investment quality firearms that will continue to grow in value as you enjoy ownership and use. This rifle checks all the boxes and is amongst less than a few hundred so produced. Add to the rarity of the Deluxe features the fine, untouched factory finishes, desirable .45-90 cartridge, excellent bore and you have one valuable rifle that breathes the history of the American West. FORMAL CODY LETTER IS ORDERED AND IS INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE. Thanks for looking and don’t hesitate, as rifles like this do not come up often, at least not in this price range.
