General Specs: Winchester, 1939, 28 Gauge, 7lbs. 2oz., Choked Mod, LOP 14 1/8″, DAH 2 9/16″, DAC 1 5/8″ Serial Number: 807018 Those interested in collecting and shooting pre-1964 Winchester Model 12 guns know that the 28ga. Model 12 is a rare, highly sought after Winchester. Many were faked to look like a 28ga. but were actually 20ga. guns. What we have here is a genuine 28ga. and we know that by disassembling the gun and observing the characteristics that don’t show up on faked guns. You can see the photo showing the tang of the action that has the factory stamped “28” indicating the gun came from the factory as a 28ga. I personally examined this stamp under high magnification and bright light and it has not been altered. This gun started life as a rare Winchester Model 12 28ga. built in 1939. It has since been modified into a true work of the gunmaker’s art with 6 multi-colored gold inlays, gold wire borders and serial numbers, and stocked with true exhibition walnut to include Winchester’s B Carved checkering pattern. The engraving is signed by one of Browning/Fabrique National’s most prominent master engravers, Gino Cargnel. You often see Winchester Model 42’s and Model 12’s upgraded by past Browning greats like Angelo Bee and they are desirable and sought after guns. You will more often see mediocre engraved guns by unknowns who simply don’t measure up to the Belgium masters. Take a close look at the photos provided and you can zoom in and see the perfection of the work. The dogs are inlaid in both white and yellow gold to provide detail not found in lesser work, including photo-like realism in the muscles and facial anatomy. The banknote scroll with stippled background is superb, not just rudimentary scratching you will see in less sophisticated work. The wood is stunning, fit to the metal with perfection, deeply carved fleur-de-lis carvings and ribbons with proper stippled background and checkering. This gun was upgraded by master gunsmiths famous for their high-grade work on the Browning Superposed highest grade guns. This is not the work of a wanna-be engraver. THIS GUN IS AS NEW WITH NO MARKS OR WEAR SINCE THE UPGRADE WAS COMPLETED. With the 26” ventilated rib barrel choked Modified, it is a gun that would be superb taking quail and other winged game, as well as crushing clays at the club. This is a true piece of art on steel and wood, a tangible asset that will gain value over time and be an enjoyable addition to your estate’s value. The fact that it is a true Model 12 28ga. and engraved by a famous engraver adds value to your investment. It is a one-of-a-kind, rare gun and you will not see anything comparable at this price. The specifications are below. Thanks for looking!
