Vintage Firearms is pleased to present this handsome over & under by Aguierre & Aranzabal, one of Spain’s premier gunmakers well known the world over for making solid, well finished guns.  There are many features to appreciate in this handsome gun, modeled after the sturdy Merkel 201.

The 28” barrels have a ventilated matte rib with tiny engraving details along the sides where the lightly engraved breech meets the barrels.  The blue on the barrels are very good, only some slight freckling on the right side where the breech meets the receiver.  The two-piece forearm has excellent screws and point pattern hand checkering.  The wood to metal fit is excellent around the scalloped receiver.  The receiver has beautiful deep relief game scene engraving, cocking indicators with gold finish.  The coin finish on the receiver is shiny but has a warmth to it.  The Kersten double locking lug, checkered barrel selector, engraved safety, and the engraved lever all operate with sturdy confidence.  The pistol grip is capped with an engraved screw at its center.  The walnut stock has some impressions in the finish and light handling marks, point pattern hand checkering, and a Purdey style leather butt pad.

There are many details to appreciate about this gun and holding it in my hands, inspecting the work, what stands out most to me is the liveliness exhibited in the engraving, especially in the pointer on the left side of the receiver.  Enjoy your hunt!
