Smith Corona Model 03-A3 .30-06 – 1944, 4 GROOVE BORE, SLING

Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer a Smith Corona 1944 manufactured Model 03-A3 rifle. The second World War iteration of the M1903, which saw extensive use by US troops in Europe, the Pacific, and Africa in World War II. The major difference between the A3 1903 are the rear sights, the rear barrel mounted tangent sights were replaced by a receiver mounted aperture to make it easier for soldiers who were already accustomed to the M1 Garand. This example is serial number 4832490. All metal parts including the action, magazine base plate, trigger guard and barrel bands are parkerized and sit around 98% condition with a minimum of handling marks. The mechanics of this rifle are in perfect working order with a smooth action, magazine cutoff and two stage trigger breaking cleanly at 5 lbs. The bore has four grooved rifling and is dated 11/43, Smith Corona switched over to two groove rifling in late 1943, both types shoot well but collectors value the four grooves more. The stock retains both its inspection mark and proof mark of FJA (Frank J. Atwood) and an encircled P. This 1903-A3 comes with a sling and an original sight protector with a US flaming bomb and R acceptance proofs. A classic and a fine addition to any military collection.
