Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909 Cavalry Carbine 7.65x53mm – 1910, DWM, BAYONET

Vintage Firearms is pleased to present this Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909, one of the highest regarded Mauser action rifles. The Argentine Mauser 1909 is essentially a streamlined version of the Gewehr 98, featuring a tangent leaf sight and compatibility with the earlier 1891 bayonet. Germany’s DWM supplied about 200 thousand rifles, while Argentine state factories in Rosario and Santa Fe produced another 85 thousand. Some 1909 rifles and carbines minus crests were sold to Paraguay for use during the Chaco War, and some were used during the US occupation of the Dominican Republic. Three 1909 variants were created, a mountaineer/engineer’s carbine, a full-length rifle, and a cavalry carbine. This example, serial number A3180, manufactured 1910 by DWM and has the appropriate modifications to better facilitate use while mounted. The sling mounts have been moved from the bottom of the rifle to the left side, it has a Mannlicher style stock, a shorter barrel, and a straight grip stock. Interestingly, the 1909 cavalry carbine has a bayonet lug, unlike the 1891 cavalry carbine. The barrel retains 98% factory finish; the receiver and bolt retain 97% factory finish and has a bore that rates 6/10. The guns furniture has some armory refurbishment. This rifle has matching serial numbers on the receiver, bolt, and trigger guard. 1909 cavalry carbines were made in much fewer numbers than their full-length counter parts, making them significantly rarer, so don’t hesitate to grab this one before it’s gone!
