Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this Krag-Jørgenson rifle, developed in Norway by Ole Herman Johannes Krag and Erik Jørgensen in the late 1800s. The Krag would go on to be adopted by Denmark, Norway, and most famously the United States. Although it was designed in Norway, the country was the last to adopt the rifle, doing so in 1894 and chambering it in 6.5×55 following the work of the Swedish‑Norwegian Rifle Commission. Between the three countries that adopted the Krag, the rifle served in the Spanish American war, Philippine-American war, Boxer Rebellion and both world wars. What sets the Krag apart is its incredibly smooth action and ability to top up the 5-round magazine without needing to take the rifle out of battery, which certainly is advantageous in many circumstances! However, despite its many wonderful qualities, the Krag had its drawbacks, and was replaced by the M1903 Springfield after only 11 years of service. Although, the Krag-Jorgensen did still see use up into the Second world war by Norway and Denmark, until they replaced them with self-loading rifles. This example, serial number 116506, was produced by Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk in 1917. The rifle’s barrel, receiver, and bolt retains 92% factory finish, which is fading to a pleasant patina, and the barrel has a 4.5/10 bore with defined rifling. Furthermore, it has matching serial numbers on the receiver, bolt, buttplate, and barrel bands. Overall, the rifle is in great mechanical condition and a capable rifle for the woods and prairies of North America, and a perfect choice for any militaria collector.
