The Savage 1899 (later shortened to 99) held a distinct advantage over other period guns as it utilized a rotary magazine, allowing shooters to use the more powerful high velocity pointed bullets for faster and flatter shots. This example, serial number 283979, built in 1926, chambered in .30-30 Winchester is a takedown model. It features controlled feed, remaining rounds counter which allows the rifle to keep track of the number of rounds remaining through a small window on the receiver left side and great safety mechanisms with loaded chamber indicator, a locked lever and action. Weighing in at a cartridge suitable 6lbs. 9oz. and the trigger breaking crisply at 6lbs this gun is ready for the hunt. It retains 95% factory finish on the barrel, 5% remaining case color on the receiver, and 10% case color on the lever, with the rest fading to a pleasant patina, and has an excellent+ bore that rates 8.5/10.
