Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this Rolling Block Rifle chambered in 11.7x51mm produced by kjøbenhavn Tøjhuus (Royal Danish Arsenal) under license. The Remington Rolling Block was a wildly successful breech-loading rifle and saw production from the mid-19th century into the early 20th century by Remington. These rifles have been chambered in a wide variety of cartages from 11.7x51mm and 11.15x58mmR to .30-40 Krag and 7mm Mauser, as such has been adopted and used by a similar breath of countries. The rifle was first adopted by United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway in 1867 and was followed by Denmark shortly after. Originally the Danish M1867 rifles were chambered for 11.7×41.5mm rimfire but were later converted to fire 11.7x51mm centerfire. The United Kingdom purchased rolling block rifles for Egypt during the Mahdist War and issued roughly 4,000 chambered in 7mm Mauser to the Royal Navy’s minesweepers during WW1. The rolling block was also of the two premier buffalo hunting rifles in the mid to late 1800s. This example, serial number 53624 produced in 1878 is in excellent overall condition. The 35 1/2” barrel retains 98% finish and the receiver retains 80% finish, with both mostly having gone to patina. This rifle has a shiny bore that rates 8/10, although, there is small area of damage to one groove around 10 inches from the muzzle. Please note: this rifle is missing its original sling swivels. Overall, the rifle is in good working mechanical condition and would make a great addition to your collection. Have a look at the detailed specifications and pictures below. Thanks for looking!
