MAK-90 “Sporting Rifle” 7.62x39mm – 1993, STRAIGHT CUT, 10/10 BORE

The Avtomat Kalashnikova, Kalashnikov, or just simply the AK is one of just a handful of guns that truly needs no introduction, adopted in some fashion by countless countries, groups, and networks, and are still in active service today. Kalashnikovs have been adapted to serve all manner of roles both civilian and military; from compact Submachine Guns and Carbines to full size Squad Automatic Weapons and Marksmen Rifles, and everything between. In 1955 the People’s Republic of China was provided military assistance by the Soviet Union which included proper machine tooling, and training to help modernize their small arms production. Thus, the Type 56 automatic rifle was born, originally a direct copy of the Soviet AK-47. However, the Type 56’s design began to diverge, featuring a fully enclosed front hood, folding style spike bayonet. The Norinco MAK-90 is essentially a Type 56 with some modifications to comply with US import law, Norinco marketed these guns as “sporting rifles” swapping the typical AK furniture for a thumbhole stock with a longer length of pull and a thicker pistol grip. This example, serial number 9346297, manufactured 1993, notably does not have a slant cut receiver making it compatible with standard Type 56 furniture. It retains 99% factory finish on all parts and has a 10/10 mirror bore. Overall, a superb example of a Kalashnikov pattern rifle from one of the platform’s most respected manufacturers.
