| General Specs: Alexander Henry, 1871, .360 Black Powder Express, 4lbs. 12oz., LOP 14 3/8″ Serial Number: 2479 Vintage Firearms is pleased to present this handy little falling block rifle, that packs a punch with its potent .360 Black Powder Express chambering (there are nitro loads available for these cartridges, if black powder isn’t attractive to you). Look over the detailed photos and you’ll see that this gun has some beautiful details. The fine English scroll and bordered engraving cover almost every metal surface other than the barrel. The engraver included an “Easter egg” that took us a while to notice, and we’ve featured it in our photos; the head of the hammer is engraved as the head of a bird of prey. The action features a stalking safety when at half-cock. The bore on this gun is excellent, and the blue on the barrels shows good coverage with some pitting, nothing active. The sighting system includes a front post dovetailed into the barrel with a tiny silver bead, flip up express sights at the rear. The top of the octagon barrel also features incredibly fine matte from the breech to the rear sight, then an area is left blank for the maker’s engraving “AlexR Henry 12 South St. Andrew St. Edinburgh. Patent No. 1744” and then the matting continues to the muzzle. The forend and stock show the marks of true field use over the years, having been crafted in 1871. The hand rubbed oil finish brings out a beautiful fiddleback all along the comb, and a depth of grain and tone in the wood. The double bordered point-pattern checkering is well executed. The horn grip cap adds to the aesthetic. The stock terminates in a metal buttplate with a significant nib at the heel of the comb. This gun has a “Big Brother” available on our site as well – a John Dickson & Son .500 BPE in an almost identical format. They would be quite the pair as an addition to any collection. This gun is considered an antique and can be shipped to your home address, please know your local laws.
