| General Specs: Arrieta, 2014, .410 Bore, 6lbs., Chokes Cyl/IC, LOP 14 3/4″, DAH 2 1/8″, DAC 1 7/16″ Serial Number: 47-03-148-14 Custom-ordered through Jack Jansma’s Michigan importing firm (PGP / U.P.A.) and completed in 2014 bearing serial number 57-03-148-14, this Arrieta Model 601 “Wingshooter Special” represents a purpose-built upland configuration on a true scaled .410 sidelock frame. While the factory catalog standard for the 601 was a minimalist silver coin finish, this piece was upgraded with factory color case hardening, showcasing rich blues, purples, and straw tones across the unengraved lockplates, sculpted fences, and floorplate. The handling dynamics set this gun apart. At an even 6 lbs. with 29-inch chopper-lump barrels (weighing 1,086 grams / 2 lbs. 6 oz), factory 3″ chambers, and Cylinder / Improved Cylinder chokes, this diminutive side-by-side completely avoids the flighty, whippy balance common to small bores, tracking smoothly with a deliberate swing and an expansive sighting plane. The stock features a round Prince of Wales grip, semi-beavertail forend, and modern 14 ¾” length of pull to an integral checkered butt—an ideal setup for fast, instinctive shooting over pointing dogs in tight cover or vintage Skeet. Mechanically, the gun incorporates premium sidelock refinements, including an articulated front trigger, disc-set strikers, and timed automatic ejectors. Preserved in 99% factory-original condition, the vibrant case colors remain unmarred across the receiver, the action closes tight as new on face with the top lever well right of center, the bores are mirror-bright, and the ribs ring like bells. With Arrieta’s workshop permanently closed, finding a modern, scaled-frame .410 sidelock with 29-inch barrels and deliberate handling dynamics is becoming exceptionally difficult. Between the factory 3″ chambers, ideal modern stock dimensions, and untouched 99% original condition, you simply could not commission a bespoke European double of this caliber today for anywhere near this price point. Dynamic in the hands and completely sorted, this “Wingshooter Special” is ready for a lifetime of fast autumn coverts or an afternoon on the skeet field—a superb upland tool and a sound investment for the discerning sportsman.
