At Vintage Firearms, as you can imagine, we have seen some unique guns come through our doors. Few guns have captured the attention of our staff like this incredible safari rifle. According to information found on Internet Gun Club’s site, it seems the well-known gunmaker of B.R. Rodda was earlier known as Brown & Rodda (Titchborne St., London) for only two years, helping narrow the manufacturing date of this beautiful piece of history to either 1846 or 1847. The company’s primary market was for safaris in India by British Officers and Aristocracy, and the elite members of Indian society. This fine firearm was certainly crafted with high society in mind, with its beautiful engraving, case color, stunning Damascus, fine checkering with mullered borders, all topped off with accents of silver tastefully placed around the various features of the gun. The warmth of tone and wavy grain are brought out beautifully by the oil rubbed finish. Considering this gun’s age, the bore is in impeccable condition. The Damascus has been refinished over time, and it was done very well, in that the gunsmith made the effort to leave the edges of the octagon shape sharp. The color is exceptional, considering that even if the gun was refinished half its life ago, that still could have been almost 90 years ago. Our gunsmiths have performed our VFI Certification. This is a full strip, clean, & inspection of the mechanical systems. The action is stripped to the smallest part, cleaned in the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected for integrity and function, lubricated and reassembled. VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty. Our gunsmiths are so enthralled by this gun they are working up a safe powder charge and plan on shooting this rifle at our shooting club, when it happens, we will be posting video of the event, it’s going to be epic! I have searched the internets, this is the only Brown & Rodda 8 bore available that I can find, so if you are looking for that elusive large bore, now is your chance to add this extraordinary Safari gun to your collection. Please enjoy the photographs bellow. Thanks for looking! Please note this gun is considered an Antique and can be shipped directly to your home address, please consult your local laws.
