Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this Rolling Block Rifle chambered in 8x58mm produced by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori (Rifle Factory of Carl Gustaf’s Town) under license. The Remington Rolling Block was a wildly successful breech-loading rifle and saw production from the mid-19th century into the early 20th century by Remington. These rifles have been chambered in a wide variety of cartages from 8x58mm and 11.15x58mmR to .30-40 Krag and 7mm Mauser, as such has been adopted and used by a similar breath of countries. The rifle was first adopted by United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway in 1867 and was followed by Denmark shortly after. Originally the Swedish Rolling Blocks were chambered for 12.17x42mm rimfire and then later converted to 8x58mm. The United Kingdom purchased rolling block rifles for Egypt during the Mahdist War and issued roughly 4,000 chambered in 7mm Mauser to the Royal Navy’s minesweepers during WW1. The rolling block was also of the two premier buffalo hunting rifles in the mid to late 1800s. This example, serial number 9946 produced in 1874 is in excellent overall condition. This rifle was converted to fire 8x58mm in 1892 and was issued to 17th Regiment, 3rd Company, and was rifle Number 96, evidenced by the inlayed brass disk which reads “17R. 3k. No96” on the right side of the stock. This rifle has matching serial numbers on the receiver, barrel, handguard, stock, front sight, buttplate, hammer, and breech block. The 33” barrel retains 96% finish, has an excellent+ bore that rates 8/10, and the receiver retains 80% case color which is fading to a pleasing silver. This rifle has been nicely looked after and well cared for and much care has been taken to restore the handguard and stock. Overall, the rifle is in good working mechanical condition and would make a great addition to your collection. Have a look at the detailed specifications and pictures below. Thanks for looking!
