Serial Number:  1903

The Charles Daly name has appeared on firearms of widely differing quality, which has caused many modern shooters to overlook the extraordinary guns produced for Daly by Heinrich August Lindner of Suhl, Prussia. Built in approximately 1911, serial number 1903 is a beautifully executed Lindner-made boxlock ejector from the celebrated prewar period, when Charles Daly offered some of the finest German sporting guns available to the American market.

Lindner’s craftsmanship becomes especially apparent when the gun is examined internally. The action is beautifully machined, carefully fitted, and finished with the precision of a fine mechanical watch. Its strength comes not from one oversized locking device, but from an elaborate system that includes double underbolts, a concealed crossbolt engaging the doll’s-head extension, a barrel lug extending through the bottom of the action, and reinforcing sideclips. Cocking indicators, intercepting safety sears, and properly timed ejectors showcase the craftsmanship embodied in this gun.

The exterior is equally impressive. Fine scroll engraving follows the sculpted fences and scalloped action, with engraved details continuing onto the top lever, safety, trigger guard, and forend iron. Raised side panels with teardrop points, sharp hand checkering, a horn-tipped splinter forend, and highly figured Turkish walnut broadcast quality and refinement. The receiver retains approximately 30% original case color, while the engraving and screw slots remain clean and sharp. The 30-inch Krupp fluid-steel barrels retain 99% factory blue, remain tight on the hinge and breech face, and have mirror bores.  Choke constrictions of .012 and .019 provide a useful Improved Cylinder and Modified combination, ideal for sporting clays, preserve shooting, and a wide variety of upland hunting. In Addition, We have lengthened the chambers to 2 ¾” and the forcing cones to 1 ½” tapers, providing better patterns, softer felt recoil to shooter and gun, and allows the use of modern and available ammunition, a $360 service in our shop.  At Vintage Firearms, we inspect each gun before purchase, our five gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed. For this Daly, we stripped the action and forend iron to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed all parts to shiny metal, inspected all for integrity and function, lubricated and reassembled, providing a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, a $375 service in our shop.  VFI CERTIFIED GUNS have a 90-day mechanical warranty providing confidence you are buying a fine shotgun that will provide years of service in the field.

A finely fitted leather-covered recoil pad by Vintage Firearms  provides a 14 7/16-inch length of pull. The gun weighs 7 pounds 8 ounces, giving it the steady, deliberate handling expected from a 30-inch continental game gun.

This is not a gun that is frequently encountered, Lindner guns are highly sought after.  A great investment that will grow in value as you enjoy its use chasing game or breaking clays at the next vintage side-x-side event.  If you want the finest boxlock money can buy at an affordable price, complete with highly figured European walnut, the finest hand engraving and checkering, with the strength and integrity of German engineering, this is your chance!  SEE SPECIFICATIONS BELOW.  Thanks for looking!
