The Avtomat Kalashnikova, Kalashnikov, or just simply the AK is one of just a handful of guns that truly needs no introduction, adopted in some fashion by countless different countries, groups, and networks, and are still in active service today. Kalashnikovs have been adapted to serve all manner of roles both civilian and military; from compact Submachine Guns and Carbines to full size Squad Automatic Weapons and Marksmen Rifles. One such group was the Romanian Patriotic Guards, established by Nicolae Ceaușescu in 1968 in response to the Warsaw Pact’s invasion of Czechoslovakia. The Patriotic Guards consisted of men, women, and children, who would serve in some paramilitary capacity to assist the army in case of invasion by either the West or fellow Warsaw Pact members in line with Romania’s “War of the Entire People” military doctrine. Members would be issued semi-automatic only AKM pattern rifles, which featured a Latin “G” on the side of the rear sight block and a black stripe on the stock. Post Romanian revolution and the disbandment of the Civil Guard, Romania proceeded to sell off their stockpiles of Gardă PM md. 63 rifles, leading to them supplying the US market in the form of parts kits. Since then, the supply of “Romy G” kits has largely dried up, making them increasingly scarce. This example, serial number 1981S-AK 2327, was built by Troy Sellars of In Range Inc. on a Childers Guns receiver using parts originally manufactured by Fabrica de Arme Cugir in 1981. This rifle is fitted with laminated dark wood furniture featuring a wooden foregrip handguard and intact Civil Guard stripe on the stock. The metal has been given a black cosmetic coating after being parkerized. It retains 98%+ of its black coating on all parts, with only minor wear and flaking visible around the safety selector and bolt. The 16.3” barrel has a mirror 10/10 bore, and is threaded 1×14 LH for its slant cut AKM muzzle break. It has matching serial numbers on the receiver, trunnion, bolt, carrier, rear recoil spring guide, dust cover, safety lever, rear tangent sight, and gas tube. Included with this Romy G are 3 steel 30 round mags, two of which are true Romanian surplus and a cleaning kit. This is an opportunity to own a Romanian Civil Guard AKM professionally built by legendary AK gunsmith Troy Sellars of In Range Inc. Specifications and pictures are below. Thanks for looking!
