| General Specs: General Motors, 1942, .45 ACP, 15oz. 4″ Serial Number: NSN Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer a true once-in-a-lifetime gun, an original FP-45 Liberator pistol. The FP-45 “Liberator” was designed by George Hyde after the Polish military attaché pitched the idea and was assigned to the US Army’s Joint Psychological Warfare Committee. Production began in June of 1942 by General Motors and was designated as a “flare gun” to disguise its true nature. The intended purpose of the FP-45 was to be inexpensive, mass produced, disposable single-shot “Deringers” which could be dropped behind enemy to support resistance groups across Europe during the second world war. Production of the Liberator project took only three months and three hundred workers to produce one million pistols. These pistols were issued with a wooden dowel to extract spent cartridges and 10 rounds of .45acp which could be stored in the grip. This example is an original General Motors production (not a reproduction) in superb, museum quality condition and appears unfired. Post war, most were disposed of under the impression they were junk, either being dumped in the sea or melted down, finding an original in such high condition is a rare event! So don’t hesitate to grab this one before it’s gone! Thanks for looking!
