Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this unique Enfield conversion. In the early 1940s the British Raj (modern day India) took up the task of converting tens of thousands of their Enfield rifles to smooth bore “muskets” for police and guard use. These “muskets” were chambered for .410 shells, however, a notably different .410 than is typically seen in America. This “British .410” was created from .303 British cartridges that were not necked or sized and then packed with shot. Upon entry to the US many converted Enfields were rechambered for American .410 to prevent serious ammo related mishaps. This example, serial number 62960 D, manufactured in 1936 by Ishapore and based on the markings, seems to have been converted in 1948. It retains 98% finish on the barrel, bolt, and receiver, and the trigger guard retains 97% finish. The 25 inch barrel has a mirror bore, is choked cylinder, and is chambered for 3 inch .410 shells. This Ishapore comes with a bayonet just in case your one .410 shell just isn’t enough! Please note, this “musket” is missing its front sling swivel.
