| General Specs: JP Sauer, 1951, 20-Gauge, 6lbs., Chokes IC/F, LOP 14 1/2″, DAH 2 3/4″, DAC 1 7/16″ Serial Number: 391359 This handsome J.P. Sauer & Sohn combines the refinement of a true sidelock ejector with the dimensions hunters want in a practical upland gun. Built in July 1951 during Sauer’s early postwar return to sporting-gun production, it weighs just 6 pounds and carries lively 26″ Krupp-steel barrels with 2¾” chambers and versatile open-right/firmer-left choking. The sidelock action is beautifully finished with fine scroll engraving, engraved fences, side clips, cocking indicators, double triggers, automatic ejectors, and a tang safety. Its richly figured walnut stock has a traditional capped pistol grip, splinter forend, and a leather-covered recoil pad. At 14½” length of pull, it remains comfortably proportioned for modern use. The receiver retains its original case color with attractive, honest aging that leaves the engraving clearly defined. The barrels are beautifully rust blued, with sharp markings, tight ribs, no dents, and healthy minimum wall thicknesses. Light, beautifully balanced, and far more finely constructed than the typical continental boxlock, this Sauer offers the handling of a proper small-bore game gun with the mechanical sophistication of sidelocks and ejectors. It is an especially appealing choice for grouse, woodcock, quail, or preserve shooting—and a great deal of gun for the money.
