There are competition shotguns built almost entirely around function, and there are high-grade guns created to showcase the engraver’s and stock maker’s art. The Kolar Regal Classic occupies the uncommon ground between the two.

Built on Kolar’s superb American-made competition platform, this Regal Classic 12 gauge combines the durability, handling and adjustability expected of a serious Sporting Clays gun with a level of embellishment more commonly associated with a bespoke sporting arm.

The receiver is covered in beautifully executed deep-relief scroll engraving, extending across the fences, top lever, tangs, trigger guard and associated furniture. The bottom of the action provides the visual centerpiece, with a striking gold gamebird inlay surrounded by elaborate scrollwork.

The walnut is equally impressive. The pistol-grip stock and matching forend display exceptional figure with dark mineral lines, feather and swirling grain. An adjustable comb allows both drop and cast to be tailored to the shooter, and length of pull measures a very accommodating 14 3/4″.

The 32″ ventilated rib barrels make this a particularly desirable Sporting configuration. The gun is supplied with Skeet, IC, IC, Light Modified and Modified interchangeable choke tubes.

Mechanically, the gun is exactly what one hopes to find in a premium competition shotgun. The action and hinge remain tight, the top lever rests right of center, ejectors are properly timed, and the single Gold adjustable trigger breaks crisply at approximately 4.1 and 4.6 pounds.

At 8 lbs. 13.6 oz., with the balance only about 1/4″ forward of the hinge, this Regal has the controlled feel desired in a high-volume target gun while remaining responsive through the shot.

Perhaps most importantly for a gun of this type, it has seen remarkably little use, with fewer than 500 rounds fired. It presents beautifully overall, with rich barrel blue, crisp engraving and spectacular walnut. The gun comes complete with its Negrini case, all Kolar accessories and cloth gun covers.

Kolar built its reputation producing uncompromising American competition shotguns. The Regal Classic elevates that proven platform into something much more unusual: a beautifully stocked and extensively engraved high-grade gun that remains completely at home breaking targets.
