| General Specs: Krieghoff, 2001, .500/.416, 10lbs. 11oz., LOP 15″ Serial Number: 114126 This 2018 Krieghoff Classic Big Five is a particularly handsome and highly optioned dangerous-game double rifle, chambered in .500/.416 Nitro Express. Krieghoff has confirmed that the rifle was built with Grade IV hand engraving and Deluxe Grade wood, immediately separating it from the more commonly encountered standard-production Classics. The engraving is the visual centerpiece of the rifle, with detailed African game scenes featuring elephant and rhinoceros set among extensive scrollwork carried across the sideplates, fences, action, trigger guard, and adjoining surfaces. The presentation is completed by richly figured Deluxe Grade walnut and a buffalo-horn grip cap with an inset engraved elephant medallion, giving the rifle a cohesive safari character throughout. It is equally well equipped from a practical standpoint. The rifle features Krieghoff’s Intelligent Ejector System, a factory see-through rear sight, and a removable section of rib configured for a red-dot sight. These features give the shooter the flexibility of traditional iron sights or a modern optic while preserving the handling qualities that make a double rifle so appealing in the first place. Condition is excellent overall. The engraving, action, and wood remain extremely attractive, with only one localized cosmetic issue on the side of the right barrel where previous surface oxidation was removed and neutralized, leaving minor visible evidence. Beyond that area, the rifle presents as a very well cared-for example. The .500/.416 Nitro Express is an especially capable modern dangerous-game cartridge, offering substantial power with a flatter trajectory than many traditional big-bore double-rifle chamberings.
