Those choosing the small-bore guns as their passion choose from a minute pool of guns, as the American made .410 bore double gun is a low production gun that is hard to find.  In fact, of the prominent American makers, only Parker, Ithaca, and L.C. Smith made their shotguns in the diminutive .410.  Most are aware that the Parker .410 fetches well over the $25,000 mark, and for some reason the Ithaca has a smaller following.  That leaves the L.C. Smith, America’s only commercially successful sidelock action available in the .410 bore, as the most desirable and affordable of the American small bores.  There were only 2500 L.C. Smith Field Grade .410’s made. Only 181 had the most desirable features of 28” barrels and ejectors, as shown in the included L.C. Smith Collector Association letter documenting this gun.  Most of the .410’s being offered for sale are well worn, have short stocks, butt pads, poor restorations, replaced parts, etc. that make them less desirable. It is rare to find one with a full-length stock terminating in the original buttplate and having 90% factory case color remaining on the action.  The best guns for your collection and for investment are always going to be low production guns with condition.  There is always a buyer for high condition, low production .410 American doubles.  With 90% factory case color, original factory wood with a full length of pull to a factory butt plate, strong barrel blue, excellent screws…this Elsie, snFWE132247 made in 1930, sure qualifies as an investment quality firearm. The mechanics are excellent, as this is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, THE ACTION AND FOREND IRON HAVING BEEN STRIPPED TO PARTS, ALL PARTS ULTRASONIC CLEANED, SCRUBBED TO BARE METAL, INSPECTED FOR INTEGRITY AND FUNCTION, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED, NOW CARRYING A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY (a $450 service in our shop).  The barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever well to the right of center.  This Elsie is ready to go…all it needs is some ammunition and a date afield or at the club.  Weighing just 6lbs. and balanced 1/8” ahead of the hinge pin, it is the perfect dove gun choked M/F, or for your soft skinned birds like quail, woodcock, snipe, huns, grouse, etc.  Or try the vintage side x side shoots for the “pee-wee” events!  We have 5 full-time gunsmiths employed at VFI.  If you need alterations let us know.  See specifications below. Thanks for looking.
