Merkel shotguns made in Suhl Germany demonstrate legendary German engineering, with strength and function always foremost in the design. The Model 2001EL Luxus is a dynamic, high-grade game gun utilizing Merkel’s famously robust Kersten double cross-bolt locking system and double underlugs to give incredible strength and durability to this handsome over-and-under.

This 2001EL 12ga., sn021329 built in 2003, is hand engraved with deep chiseled game scenes and special attention to the smallest details, and remains in outstanding 99% original condition. Most notable is the metalwork, bearing the intertwined “US” signature of Hans-Ulrich Sorg, recognized as a Merkel Master Engraver. His relief work of a fox flushing pheasants across the scalloped coin-finished action is crisp, deep, and full of life. Screws remain cleanly indexed, and the long-tang trigger guard retains its rich factory blue. The 28″ barrels retain 99% of their original factory blue with mirror-bright bores and tight ribs that ring bells.

The mechanics on this gun, including crisp single selective trigger pulls, strong well-timed ejectors, and a manual safety, are in excellent working order. With its 28″ SK/LM fixed chokes and 3″ chambers, the gun weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces and balances directly on the hinge pin. This is a lively, dynamic handling shotgun for your upland hunts or sporting clays, offering great versatility for everything from early-season grouse to late-season pheasants.

Just look at the beautiful European walnut stock on this gun with dark mineral streaks radiating through the buttstock and traditional three-piece field forend! Awesome! The checkering is sharp, wood-to-metal fit is perfect throughout, and a tasteful leather-covered recoil pad has been professionally fitted, providing a very useful 14 3/4″ length of pull. Accompanied by its fitted two-tone hard case with combination locks, this master-engraved Merkel can be had at a fraction of modern replacement cost. Priced to sell, and destined to give you enjoyment for generations, it would be hard to find a better modern-day double gun value. See the tables below for the specifications. Thanks for looking!
