Here we have a very different James Purdey & Sons 20 bore EXTRA FINISH fully documented with a Purdey letter.  Built in 1961 for an American well-to-do, the gun remains in very high original condition with interesting extra features of hand-detachable lock plates, gold plated internal parts and trigger, rolled edge trigger guard, Purdey style leather covered pad, and “large scroll engraving”,  the engraving is striking foliate/banknote style engraving not often seen on the Purdey guns, deeply carved into the premium steel, with relief cut oak leaf fences.  Review the photos and you will see just how stunning this engraving is, with deep, rich factory original bone and charcoal case color that still shows 99% bold coverage, as do the barrels in their rust blue.  The only notable wear is on the long tang trigger guard.  The wood is very well figured with a rich hand-rubbed oil finish, clean checkering, no splits or cracks, and perfect wood-to-metal fit.  The 26.5” barrels have perfect bores, solid rib, 2 ¾” chambers, proofed at 3 ¼ tons for 1-ounce loads, choked IM/IM in American speak.  The gun weighs just 6lbs. 3oz and balances on the hinge pin.  Cased in a leather case with maker’s label and accessories.  If you have looked closely at the photos and the specifications below, you will note a unique and special Purdey over/under, one that is not like all the others.  Please see the Purdey document among the photos that will show the extra features that make this gun for unique.  The price is right for a gun that would retail for over $225,000 in today’s world.  There are few lightly used Purdey O/U 20 bore guns for sale and only one like this one!  Thanks for looking.
