There is a lot to like about a proper Spanish .410, and this 1976 Ignacio Ugartechea boxlock non-ejector combines the scarcity of the small bore with a particularly useful shooting configuration. With 28″ barrels choked IC/IC, double triggers, extractors, straight-grip stock, and beavertail forend, it is a traditional little double built to be carried and shot rather than simply admired.

Unlike many extremely light .410 doubles, this Ugartechea weighs 6 lb. 4 oz., giving it a steadier, more deliberate feel through the swing. The 28″ barrels and open chokes make it especially appealing for quail, preserve birds, rabbits, and informal clay shooting, where a lively but controllable .410 is great fun to use.

Condition is quite good for a fifty-year-old field gun. The barrels retain approximately 97% blue, the bores are excellent, and the action remains tight on both hinge and face. Attractive original case coloring remains on the receiver, with crisp border work and sculpted fences. The stock retains a handsome oil finish with excellent checkering and honest field and handling marks accumulated through use. The hard-rubber basket-weave buttplate remains neatly fitted.

A handsome, mechanically sound Spanish .410 side-by-side with 28″ barrels and very usable dimensions, this Ugartechea offers considerably more character than a modern small-bore at a very approachable price.
