Westley Richards of Birmingham is one of the most storied and respected gunmakers in the world.  The quality of craftsmanship is as good as it gets.   Referencing Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers – Volume Two,” in dealing with this period of Westley Richard history, we discover that many of their guns were built as sidelocks; indeed, according to records this was the first breech loading gun completed in 1967.  The factory finishes remain in fantastic condition, with only light handling marks in the stunning Turkish Walnut.  The grain of which should be viewed at different angles in person, to truly appreciate the depth of its figure, tone, and grain patterns.  The finish details of the wood-to-metal fit, double-bordered 28 lines per inch checkering, tear drops behind the locks, and a handsome beavertail forend, stand out as a testament to the care that was given in building this fine firearm.  The mirror bores and chambers are in proof, ready for heavy loads.  This two-barrel set is a nod from Westley Richards to their counterpart Robert Churchill, designer of the Churchill XXV – with its 25” barrels, meant for agility and speed.  If you are a collector without a Churchill XXV, this is a wonderful way to fill the void, as you also have the option of a more conventional 26” companion barrel, creating a versatile game gun and a classy skeet gun for out at the club.  Housed in a beautiful and fitting vintage leather case.  Please enjoy the photos and review the detailed specifications.
