| General Specs: Winchester, 1917, .38WCF, 6lbs. 11oz. LOP 12 15/16″ Serial Number: 835001
The Winchester Model 1892 is John Browning’s design that closely mirrored the venerable 1886 action but for the smaller handgun calibers that were made popular by Winchester. Initially made in .25WCF (.25-20), .32WCF (.32-20), .38WCF (.38-40), and .44WCF (.44-40). This example, serial number 90458, produced by Winchester in 1917, is marked on the top tang “Model 1892” and was built before that stamping changed to the abbreviated “Model 92”. The 24” half octagon barrel and full-length mag tube retains 90% factory finish; the mirror bore has strong rifling and rates 8/10 with a small amount of frosting near the muzzle. The receiver retains 45% with it silvering around the carry point. If you have a Colt Single Action Army in .38WCF, you’d have an outstanding target combo too! A very worthy Winchester for your collection, and a gun you can have some fun taking to the woods on occasion. Specifications and pictures are below. Thanks for looking!
