| General Specs: Winchester, 1935-37, 20-Gauge, 6lbs, Chokes Cyl/SK, LOP 14 3/16″, DAH 2 1/2″, DAC 1 5/8″ Serial Number: 4818
The Winchester Model 21 is one of America’s great classic double guns, and this early 20 gauge is especially appealing for one simple reason: it is a true 6 lb. gun. Built with 26″ barrels, double triggers, extractors, a pistol-grip stock and splinter forend, SN 4818 has the trim proportions and lively handling of a proper upland gun. The open chokes further complement that configuration, making it especially well-suited to grouse, woodcock, quail and other fast shooting over dogs or in close cover. Condition is excellent throughout. The metal retains outstanding finish with crisp markings and excellent screws, while the walnut shows an attractive oil finish with only light handling evidence. The bores are mirror bright, the barrels are free of dents, and the gun remains tight and mechanically sound. Model 21s are rightly known for strength and durability, but they are not always known for being especially light. At just 6 pounds, this 20-gauge offers the best of both worlds: classic Model 21 quality in a gun that carries and handles like a true lightweight game gun. For the Model 21 collector or upland hunter looking for something beyond the typical example, the combination of 20 gauge, 26″ barrels, open chokes, double triggers, extractors, splinter forend and remarkably light weight makes this a particularly desirable gun.
