The Beretta ASEL was the last of the boxlock hand fitted, hand engraved and checkered premium guns from Beretta before the machine-made guns began with the S57 series. Built from 1949 until the late 1950’s, most acknowledge the ASEL was one of the strongest and best of the earlier Beretta over/under guns. Later ASEL guns were heavy target guns and not the same as this earlier gun. This gun, sn20162 built in 1958, was purpose-built as a game gun with its fine-combed English grip stock, slim field style forearm, double triggers (front trigger hinged or “articulated”), 28 ½” Chrome Molybdenum steel barrels with solid rib, and all weighing just 7 1/4lbs. and balanced dead on the hinge pin. The gun is in NEAR NEW FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION, WITH 99% FACTORY FINISHES ON ALL WOOD AND METAL. The gun locks up tight, is still tight on the hinge pin, the bores are mirror perfect, the hand-rubbed oil finish is all there with only a few tiny handling marks on the richly figured English walnut stocks. The 28 line per inch checkering shows no wear, the wood-to-metal fit is superb, the mechanics are excellent, all ready for generations of service. What a great gun for your late season pheasants, waterfowl, or other upland quarry, with good modern stock dimensions and IM/F chokes for the wary birds that survived the early season. Our gunsmithing department can make any necessary alterations for the new owner within days of purchase…maybe choke alterations or have us upgrade the gun with a fine Purdey style leather covered pad. Nothing looks better on a high-end shotgun than a properly done leather pad! The gun was made with sling studs, and they are handy if you work your dogs or hunt west of the Mississippi where there are few trees to lean your gun against. If you want them gone my staff can make them disappear with nary a trace. The specifications are below. What a great gun at a very affordable price. You can’t find a hand engraved and checkered, hand fit over/under in today’s market until you spend at least twice as much. A great investment quality shotgun that will work equally well in the field or on the clays course, a gun you will be proud to show off. Thanks for looking!
