William Evans is a prestigious London gunmaker beginning its journey in 1883 when he opened shop. He began his career in firearms working for Purdey’s and Holland & Holland prior to going out on his own. He made it his trademark to only produce the FINEST QUALITY GUNS, whether boxlock or sidelock, rifle or shotgun. This fine example of a fine boxlock ejector gun, sn18457 built in 1963, is an amazing find. In a marketplace full of 12 bore British Boxlock ejector guns, this William Evans stands out in several ways. FIRST, IT RETAINS 99% OF THE ORIGINAL FACTORY FINISHES ON THE BARRELS, ACTION, AND WOOD, WITH SOME WEAR SHOWING ON THE TRIGGER GUARD TANG. SECOND, IT WEIGHS ONLY 6LBS. 1OZ. EVEN WITH 28” BARRELS AND A 14 5/8” LOP. The engraving is superbly executed fine English scroll still sharp and perfectly clear covering about 50% of the frame and trigger guard. The English style stock and finely shaped splinter forend are lightly figured with perfect wood-to-metal fit, excellent checkering, and a serrated butt. The 28” barrels are modern proofed in 1963 for 2 ¾” shells heavy loads marked 3 ¼ TONS, have perfect mirror bores, finely struck barrels with 99% London quality blue choked M/F, sharp lettering and engraving, just perfect. Weighing a pleasant 6lbs. 1 oz. and balanced perfectly ¼” ahead of the hinge pin, this is a very fast, dynamic London labeled gun. The screws are all excellent, the finishes authentic, a superb London double ready for your desires in the field or on the clays course. This is a stunning, affordable London boxlock with rich history and a very respected name in the fine gun world. William Evans still operates from its London address it has occupied since WWII. A fine and lasting reputation indeed! See specifications below. Review the photographs and you will see the best value in a London upland gun, weighing less than most 20ga. guns and capable of heavy pheasant loads. It is the best buy in the British doublegun world that I have seen in some time. Thanks for looking.
