General Specs: Winchester, 1942, .348WCF, 8lbs. 10oz., LOP 13 1/4″
Serial Number: 21764
Here we have a very interesting Winchester Model 71. The Model 71 was basically a continuation of the Model 1886, with the same action, but the addition of the pistol grip butt stock and beavertail style forend. Manufactured from 1935 until 1958, the Model 71 was produced in .348 Winchester caliber only. This Model 71, serial number 21764 was made in 1942, its barrel has the Type 1 barrel address. At some point in its history some improvements were made to this gun. The receiver has been tapped for a scope mount and the barrel has acquired a Redfield M294 scope mount and a Redfield 2X scout style scope with long eye relief, while it looks different than most Winchester 71’s that you’ll encounter in the wild, the additions to this example really make it a handy rifle for snap shooting. Maybe not stock but just a dandy rifle for hunting close game while keeping both eyes open. It just works. This Winchester is also fitted with the special-order bolt that can accommodate a peep sight if that would suit you more. The gun is in perfect working order, the trigger is crisp, breaking at 5.8lbs. and the rifling is clean, sharp, and shiny. The Winchester .348 is a great mid-range caliber, shooting a 200-grain slug at a velocity of around 2500 fps. for plenty of brush-bucking power. Ammunition is still available on the internet at https://hendershots.net/product/348-winchester-extreme-custom-ammo/ . With its nonstandard additions this Winchester Model 71 is priced to sell, dare to be different! Thanks for looking.
