This 1917 Philadelphia Fox A Grade is an unusually appealing example for the upland hunter looking for a classic American double that is ready to use. At just 6lbs. 11oz. with 26″ Krupp Steel barrels, it has the lively handling characteristics that are difficult to find in a 12-gauge Fox. The gun remains in very attractive condition, retaining strong barrel blue and considerable original case color, with excellent wood-to-metal fit, crisp engraving, clean screws and nicely figured factory wood. The stock has an excellent hand-rubbed oil finish and useful shooting dimensions, making this a gun that looks right without being too precious to carry afield. Just as importantly, this Fox has been thoroughly inspected by our gunsmiths. The barrels have mirror bores and tight ribs, the gun is tight on the hinge and breech face, and the chambers and forcing cones have been professionally lengthened for modern 2 3/4″ ammunition. The combination of its light weight, 26″ barrels and IC/F chokes makes this a particularly attractive American upland gun. There are plenty of Fox A Grades in the marketplace, but considerably fewer that combine this level of condition, originality, handling and mechanical readiness. A very nice opportunity to own a century-old Philadelphia Fox that can still be enjoyed exactly as its makers intended.
