| General Specs: Francotte, 1935, 20 Gauge, 5lbs. 13oz., Chokes IM/F, LOP 14 1/2″, DAH 2 1/8″, DAC 1 3/8″ Serial Number: 2725
Auguste Francotte is world famous as a high-quality firearms maker from the gun making center of Liege, Belgium dating back as far as 1805 and doing business into the early 21rst century making fine shotguns. This great little 20 gauge was built in 1935, according to the proof marks. Francotte is a brand recognized and used by heads of state, business tycoons, and in some cases, the fortunate “Average Joe”. They are nicely built side by sides with a solid reputation for graceful looks and handling characteristics as well as rock solid dependability. This gun is a simple boxlock extractor gun with a hand engraved action and trigger guard. The scallops on the receiver add an element of style to the overall look, but more importantly add surface area where the action meets the head of the stock. The mechanics are excellent with barrels tight on the hinge pin and breech face, tight ribs, and crisp triggers…ready for a century of use. The lockup is secured by a hidden third bite which buries into the standing breech and double underlugs. The action and trigger guard have faded to a handsome silver patina with hand-engraved scroll work. The 28” barrels retain 95% of their factory blue, with only a few areas thinning. The hand rubbed oil finish highlights the fiddleback throughout the furniture that crosses what is otherwise a straight grained straight stock that has fine double bordered checkering. Simple serrations across the rear face of the buttstock give a classy look and nice purchase when shouldering for quick shots on upland and small game. This gun has modern dimensions and is ready for many more years in the field. Please review the photos and detailed specifications as you consider this capable shotgun at a great price.
