| General Specs: Merkel, circa 1986, 20 Gauge, 6lbs. 7oz. Chokes Cyl/M, LOP 15 1/8″, DAH 2 13/16″, DAC 1 1/2″ Serial Number: 381270
Merkel shotguns made in Suhl Germany demonstrate the famous German engineering, with strength and function always foremost in the design. The 47E is a graceful, lightweight game gun utilizing the Greener Crossbolt top fastener in conjunction with the traditional double underlug fasteners to give incredible strength and durability to this handsome double gun. Add the rib extension that prevents lateral movement and this gun has 4 major locking mechanisms and features side clips! This fine Merkel 47E, serial number 381270 produced circa 1986, is in superb overall condition. Weighing just 6lbs. 7oz. and balanced just ahead of the hinge pin – a dynamic handling gun indeed. The 26 3/4” barrels retain 99% factory finish, mirror bores, factory 3” chambers and is choked Cyl/M. With its German over-engineering it is fully capable of full magnum loads for your late season pheasants and waterfowl. With the more open chokes you can even shoot premium steel shot loads or other premium hard pellets like Hevishot (premium loads have full protective shotcups to prevent damage to your barrels) for maximum 20ga. shotgun ballistics. Hard non-toxic patterns are tighter than lead pellets. The oil-finished European walnut stock features a capped pistol grip, classic splinter forend, and sharp checkering with superb wood-to-metal fit throughout. The factory hard rubber buttplate has been replaced by a soft Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad, providing better recoil absorption and a generous, hard-to-find 15 1/8″ length of pull (14 1/8″ to wood), complete with modern field drop dimensions and 1/8″ cast-off for the right-handed shooter—an upgrade for sure! This Merkel 47E is a moderately priced, hand engraved, hand checkered classic side by side that will serve you and your descendants through this century and beyond. Priced to sell, so don’t hesitate to call. Specifications and pictures are below. Thanks for looking!
