Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer the classic M1 Garand. This rifle epitomizes American industrial might and “The Greatest Battle implement ever devised”. Made famous for its role as, the American service rifle of the Second World War and the Korean War, and its iconic “PING!” after emptying its magazine. Adopted in 1957 to replace the M1 Garand, the M14 utilized the new 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge military standard. Production delays, however, kept the Garand in service longer than originally anticipated. The Army briefly considered converting its .30-06 rifles to 7.62 NATO, as Italy had done through Beretta, but ultimately decided against not to and kept them in their original caliber until M14s became available in sufficient numbers. The US Navy, however, would end up converting a sizable amount of Garands to 7.62 NATO. This example, serial number 1023303, produced by Springfield Armory in November 1942, has been converted to a tanker configuration. [1] It has been rebarreled to a shorter 18” barrel, chambered for 7.62 NATO, and has a mirror bore that rates 10/10. Overall, a handy little Garand that will be a blast at the range!
