General Specs: Charles Lancaster, 1984, 20 Gauge, 5lbs. 12oz., Chokes SK/IC, LOP 14 1/4″, DAH 2″, DAC 1 1/2″
Serial Number: 25003
Charles Lancaster has been one of the elite names in the British shotgun business for well over 100 years. Absorbed by Grant and Lang in the 1930’s, the guns Lancaster designed remained in production and his patents and styles continued to be utilized by the “BEST GUN” trade. SN 25003 was made in 1984, a 20 Ga. with heavy 3 ¼ ton proofs, 2-3/4″ Chambers, 28″ Chopper lump barrels engraved “Chas. Lancaster. Birmingham.” on low narrow concave game ribs with the number “1” inlaid in gold on the rib (was #1 of a pair). The breech ends of the barrels have 1″ triangles of shaded scroll. Bottoms of the barrels are fitted with Holland & Holland style assisted opening spring mechanism. Barrel flats show 1984 Birmingham nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. Holland style bar lock action features automatic safety (SAFE is inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, and non-selective single trigger. Lockplates are fitted with H & H style hand detachable pin. Action is engraved with well executed large flowing open scroll. “Chas. Lancaster” is in arched rib band on each lockplate. Bottoms of actions are engraved “De Luxe Assisted Opener”. Blued top levers have “1″ inlaid in gold. Single beaded small bow trigger guard is scroll engraved, with SN on tang. Broadly streaked and nicely figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/4″ LOP, with a VFI quality Purdey style leather covered pad, diamond shaped hand, drop points, and gold shield on toe line with initial “JCC”. We can eliminate the initials of you wish. Nicely cut 28 LPI flattop standard point pattern checkering has double line border. This beautiful Birmingham SLE assisted opener represents an incredible value when compared to the London-made counterparts. In today’s world British assisted opening sidelock ejector guns from known makers start in the $60000 range and go up from there. This well cared for English gun can be had for a fraction of that price. Weighing just 5 3/4lbs. and balanced perfectly 1/8” forward of the hinge pin, this gun demonstrates why British double guns are so sought after by the most knowledgeable gunners. SEE SPECIFICATIONS BELOW. LOP IS FROM REAR TRIGGER POSITION. STOCK LOP WOULD BE 15” TO A FRONT TRIGGER. Our gunsmiths can make alterations to your needs without a wait in line. Just ask. What a great gun and a great price, sure to please the next owner as it appreciates in value. Thanks for looking!
