General Specs: Colt, Year 1914, .45ACP, 36oz., 5″ Barrel
Serial Number: C7988
The John Browning designed Colt 1911 needs very little introduction. It is one of the most iconic pistols ever developed. It has travelled the world and fought numerous battles since its Army acceptance in 1911 and is still widely manufactured and copied today. But this example is special- this 1911 is a commercial pistol that was shipped in 1914 to the Western Arms & Sporting Goods Company, Salt Lake City, Utah. There were two guns in the shipment, one wonders what has become of the twin to this gun. Remarkably this Colt, serial number C7988 saw service for 109 years before going to Turnbull Restoration in 2023 for a complete regeneration to factory original ‘as new’ condition. This is a stunning representation of how Colts used to appear when bought in the early part of the twentieth century; Immaculate Carbona charcoal blue, hand checkered Walnut double diamond grip panels, crisp roll marks, and fitted with a period correct two tone cyanide dipped magazine. This eye-catching 1911 would be a wonderful addition to any collection or maybe the centerpiece of one just beginning. This Colt Government Model of 1911 has a Colt letter and Turnbull’s specification sheet. Thanks for looking!
