General Specs: Colt, 1906, .38WCF, 42oz., Barrel 7 1/2″ Serial Number: 279136 The Colt Single Action Army (SAA Model of 1873) has always been synonymous with the American Wild West and an icon in the wester movie genre. The collector appeal for Colt SAA revolvers has been strong and growing for decades, making special Colt guns more valuable each passing day. Colt created a variant of the “Peacemaker” in 1894 designed to compete in the world-renowned British target competition in Bisley, England. Known as the Bisley Target Model, the revolver was reliable and accurate winning its share of “gold” at the target range. Colt followed up the Bisley Target with a standard “Bisley Model” that was well accepted with the western crowd that still needed protection while traveling from both 4-legged and 2-legged predators. The most notable difference between the Bisley and standard Colt SAA was the shape of the grip and the wider hammer and trigger, all of which made it easier to shoot quickly and accurately. From its inception in 1884 until discontinued in 1912 Colt produced over 44,000 Bisley Models in a variety of calibers. The 7 ½” barrel is harder to find and most sought after. THE EXAMPLE WE SHOW HERE IS A FANTASTIC FIND SHOWING MOST ALL OF ITS FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES, ALL MATCHING NUMBERS, AND WEARING THE DESIRABLE 7 ½” BARREL. THE BORE IS PERFECT, CRISP, MIRROR SHINY RATING A 10 OUT OF 10, AND THIS ON A 119-YEAR-OLD REVOLVER! The barrel and ejector housing retain 99% of the rich, dark factory blue with clear and sharp stampings. The action retains 98% factory case color, showing little wear or fading. The fire-blued screws retain all their iridescent colors and clean slots. The factory original hard rubber grips are numbered to the gun and show little wear to the checkering, consistent with the rest of the gun. The grip straps show wear on the back and front straps, as they should, and lots of factory blue remaining above and below the areas not contacted during use. We removed the trigger guard and grip frames to expose the assembly numbers on the frame that match the assembly numbers on the loading gate. The photos show all. The gun is pristine inside as well. Mechanically excellent, with 4 distinct clicks on the hammer notches, crisp trigger pull, cylinder lock up is tight as new, and the cylinder rotates smoothly. This is one of the finest examples of a Colt Bisley Model you are likely to encounter. IT IS STUNNING! Showing a few light scratches, no pits, freckles, or notable wear, it will put a smile on your face. There is nothing to compare with this Colt for sale on the internet when you look at condition and features. Condition is of the utmost importance when establishing value of a Colt SAA revolver. Examine the high-resolution photos and you will see an exceptional Colt Bisley! Thanks for looking. |
