Has anybody noticed? If you have been following internet sales of Fox shotguns, especially 20ga. guns, you have noticed 2 things; there are few being offered for sale and the price has risen dramatically. There are less than a handful of graded 20ga. guns in any condition being offered for sale. An average A Grade Fox 20 gauge will exceed $6000 in value this year when you can find one offered for sale. This fine little Philly Fox, sn201210 made in 1918, is a bit different than the factory issued A Grade. It has been refurbished by Orvis in Vermont, including upgrading the wood to exhibition quality burl figured Turkish walnut and a small, graceful beavertail forend. The previous owner was a New England grouse and woodcock hunter and this gun is set up for just that with chokes that measure Skeet 1 and Skeet 2, weight just 5 3/4lbs. and balanced right on the hinge pin. The stock dimensions are modern (see specifications in the table below), the work was done to perfection, and the mechanics are all in superb working order. THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, THE ACTION BEING STRIPPED TO THE SMALLEST PARTS, ULTRASONIC CLEANED AND SCRUBBED, ALL PARTS INSPECTED FOR INTEGRITY AND FUNCTION, LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED. VFI Certified guns carry a 90-day mechanical warranty and are ready for years of use with no other issues or costs you may find on a vintage gun not so serviced. If you have been considering a Fox A Grade in 20 gauge, now is the time. Ansley H. Fox produced what most believe to be the best proportioned 20ga. gun made in America late in 1912. The first full year of production was 1913 and the serial number range began at 200,000 When you consider that there were only 2400 A Grade 20ga. Fox guns ever made, you understand why they are so hard to find. A few years back you could cruise the internet or a good collector gun show and have at least a dozen choices of A Grade or better 20 ga. guns to choose from. For the last 3 years I have been searching for good Fox small bores for my clients and they are gone! The shooting public caught on to the delightful weight and balance of the A.H. Fox 20 bore, bought them all up, and they aren’t selling them. The Fox you see here is not a historically correct Fox gun for the astute collector. It IS THE SAME GREAT FOX GUN THAT EVERYBODY LOVES TO CARRY AFIELD AND HAVE FUN CRUSHING CLAY TARGETS AT THE RANGE. It is a Philly Fox with stunning good looks, superb balance and mechanics, ready for your enjoyment. You can buy this little Fox for a lot less than an all-original Fox A Grade, shoot it for years, and sell it for more than you paid for it if you ever choose to do so. You just can’t beat that! Thanks for looking.
