Ansley H. Fox’s double guns have become the most desirable vintage American double guns on the planet. There are a few 12ga. AE Grade Fox guns available to own so how do you choose which one to buy? For investment and enjoyment of use, finding Fox guns that have been well cared for throughout their life, lightly used, fully inspected, documented by experts, AND carry a written 30- day mechanical warranty make the most sense for your hard-earned money. Other factors that should be considered are rarity of features, condition, quality of wood, and for a field gun, weight and balance. This is what we have here in this Fox AE Grade 12ga., sn35245 built in 1939. This Fox has A RARE FACTORY ENGLISH STOCK (SEE FACTORY ORDER CARD IN THE PHOTO SPREAD), highly figured factory wood, 26” number 3 weight barrels (Fox’s lighter weight) factory choked IC/M with mirror shiny bores. In addition, this Fox has a LOT of factory original condition, with 99% factory blue on the barrels, 55% factory case colors that are fading to a pleasant soft silver in the carry area, perfect screws, superb factory original checkering, and most all the factory finish remaining on the beautifully figured wood. AS ADDED BONUS, WE HAVE A FACTORY LETTER, THE ORIGINAL FACTORY HANG TAGS, AND THE ORIGINAL SALES SLIP FOR WHEN INITIALLY PURCHASED 85 YEARS AGO! These items add greatly to the pleasure of ownership and the value of the gun. The gun matches the factory information precisely except the LOP is a ¼” longer. We have examined the stock on and off the gun and it is serial numbered to the gun and factory original with certainty. The gun also has double ivory beads that have been there forever, likely installed by the factory and not noted on the factory order card. If they were added, it was decades ago. This Fox shipped with 2 ¾” chambers. YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” HEAVY FIELD LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN. The action engraving is still sharp, with excellent mechanics, barrels tight as new on hinge and breech face, top lever way right of center, all in superb working order. Weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces and balanced just right between the hands, it will prove deadly in the field or on the range. The overall fit and finish on this Savage made A.H. Fox will rival any Philly made Fox AE ever made, with superb wood to metal fit, all steel components perfectly fit, expertly executed checkering…the gun speaks for itself as you can see in the photographs. Any American 12-gauge double gun that weighs under 7lbs. is a rarity and a dream to carry in the uplands. With all the vintage sporting clays shoots popping up across the country, this is a great Fox to show off at the club. You deserve a fine A.H. Fox for this year’s hunting season, so don’t hesitate. This Fox AE Grade has it all with great stock dimensions (see specs below), perfect mechanics, and notable good looks! THERE IS NOTHING TO BE DONE WITH THIS GUN BUT GO OUT AND USE IT. This is a gun you can use and enjoy, and it will continue to gain value. Only 10% of Fox guns had an English stock, so don’t hesitate if this is your “jam”. Thanks for looking! |
