The A.H. Fox Sterlingworth guns offer the most bang for the buck! Each Sterlingworth is the same gun mechanically as all other grades of the A.H. Fox gun, having the fewest parts and smallest action of any of its competitors.  The Fox gun mechanism is utterly reliable, the locking mechanism simple and efficient, the barrels and action made of the finest steels of the time, the wood finely fitted to the action, checkering well cut, and superb handling characteristics. They made a lot of Sterlingworth 12ga. guns. With so many of them out there, how do you know which one to buy?  Your intended use makes a difference, ie. heavy gun for waterfowl or sporting clays, or the lightest one you can find to carry in the uplands.  Condition is important, and many of Sterlingworth guns were used hard and not well maintained.  Buying from a seller you can trust is of the utmost concern.  IT IS EASY TO BUY THE WRONG GUN WITH COSTLY ISSUES.  At Vintage Firearms, Inc. (VFI) we inspect each gun before purchase, our 3 gunsmiths clean and service each gun as needed. We provide the most comprehensive photography and specifications in the marketplace, information that allows you to make a good choice.  This example, sn93913 made in 1921, IS A TRUE ULTRALIGHT 12 GAUGE FOX, WEIGHING JUST 6LBS. 13OZ. The original factory wood has VFI’s hand-rubbed oil finish recently applied.  The 28” number 3 weight barrels are choked M/F, the bores are mirror bright, ribs are tight, and they fit tight to hinge pin and breech face like a new gun.   PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 12GA. SHELLS.  BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN.  This is a $360 service in our shop.  The action locks up tight with the top lever sitting right of center, the screws are excellent and all correctly clocked, mechanically excellent.  Buy this gun with confidence, a VFI CERTIFIED GUN with a 90-day mechanical warranty!  We stripped the action to the smallest parts, Ultrasonic cleaned and scrubbed all parts to shiny metal, inspected all parts for integrity and function, lubricated and reassembled, a $275 service in our shop.   Just remember, nowhere is it more apparent than in the gun world…you get what you pay for!  If you want a fine Fox gun you can rely on, buy one that is field ready and can safely shoot modern, available field loads.   See the  specifications below.  A Fox Sterlingworth ULTRALIGHT double with such great features and VFI certified for 90 days make this the double gun to own!  Thanks for looking!
