| General Specs: L.C. Smith, 1926, 12 Gauge, 6lbs. 13oz., Chokes IC/IM, LOP 14 5/8″, DAH 2 3/4″, DAC 1 1/2″ Serial Number: FWE93464
Vintage Firearms is pleased to present this very rare Featherweight Monogram, with 28” Whitworth Steel Barrels and a Hunter One Single Selective Trigger, built in 1926, by the Hunter Arms Company. The L.C. Smith Collectors Association letter (pictured), states that this gun is one of only six that were ever made in this exact configuration, making this gun truly rare. The Monogram Grade was described in the company catalog as “…one of the finer grades, made especially to meet the needs of a beauty-loving sportsman.” This fine firearm certainly meets that claim. The beautifully engraved action and sidelocks retain 95% of their factory case color, showing off exceptional scroll, floral, and game scene engraving, as well as a delicate engraving of L.C. Smith along the bottom edge of the sidelock. The roses almost seem to stand out on the top of the frame, barrel fences, and the forward portion of the sidelock. The intricate scroll and floral engraving may also be found on the banjo forend escutcheon, forend iron, barrel lug, and trigger guard. The ejectors are timed well. The safety and Hunter One Selective Trigger operate as they should. The barrels retain 97% of their blue, with a few light handling marks and the left barrel has one small ding on the top of the left barrel (we’ve included a picture), which could be repaired by our team of excellent gunsmiths at the buyer’s request. Wedges of scroll engraving and a gold bar separating the rib extension from the rib can be found at the breech end of the barrels. The forend has an ebony tip and excellent full coverage checkering. The pistol grip stock features fleur-de-lis and excellent 28 LPI checkering, the walnut has deep figure and fiddleback with a few field marks from honest use over almost 100 years. The buttstock is treated with a nice Purdey style leather pad for easy mounting and sure follow-up shots. Overall, a collector-worthy gun that could be enjoyed in the field or at the club for many years to come. Please see the specifications and enjoy the photos below.
