Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this rare small bore lever gun. Marlin, truly needs no introduction, founded in the mid to late 19th century, was Winchester’s main rival, producing all manners of revolvers, rifles, and shotguns. After 10 years as the underdog, overshadowed by Winchester, Marlin eventually dethroned Winchester in the late 1800s as the primary producer of American lever guns and is currently the main supplier of Lever actions in the United States. Marlin’s 1893 design underwent a series of upgrades in the early 20th century, eventually in the late 1940s the Marlin’s Model 336 emerged, featuring its distinctive open ejection port and round bolt. The 336 action made way for all manner of calibers and configurations. The Model 336 XLR series, features stainless steel finish, wood laminate furniture, and a 24” barrel, and Marlin, for an extremely limited production run of 1 year, chambered the 336 XLR in .410 bore. This example, serial number 92218730, produced by Marlin in 2008 retains 99% stainless steel finish on all parts, a mirror bore, chambered for 2 1/2″ .410 shells, and is choked cylinder. The mechanics function as they should and the gun appears to not have been used much bar a few handling marks on the pistol grip cap and being test fired. Overall, a wonderful and elusive lever action .410 shotgun in superb condition. These small-bore shotguns have mild recoil, making them great for new shooters and pest control.
