Remington Model 1903-A3 Target Rifle – 1943, MIRROR BORE, LYMAN 48WJS

Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this Remington 03-A3 rifle, outfitted with a Lyman 48WJS adjustable rear target sight, and a front blade with sight hood and flaming bomb.  Produced in November 1943, at Ilion, New York, Remington Arms Company, this example is serial number 4054265.  Several cartouches can be seen in the photos, although fading with age, one is the crossed cannons, the military final acceptance mark and the other is the FJA inspector cartouche of Colonel Frank J. Atwood. There is the remains of a circle proof mark on the pistol grip. The barrel shows proper markings, and the bore and two-groove rifling are mirror shiny and rate 9.5 out of 10 or higher, the barrel is dated 9-43.  A soldier or target shooter saw fit to initial the receiver by hand with the initials “R.V.” the initials are barely visible. Metal and wood finishes are very nice throughout the gun with some light handling marks and wear in the places you’d most expect. The flag safety and bolt cut-off operate properly. The bolt, controlled round feed, and extractor operate smoothly. All parts including the bolt, bolt release, bolt handle, sight hood and sling mounts are marked R for Remington. An excellent overall rifle with much potential in a collector’s case, on the range, and in the field, chambered in the capable, versatile .30-06.  Thanks for looking!
