| General Specs: Springfield Armory, 1921, .30-06, 9lbs. 2oz. LOP 12 7/8″ Serial Number: 1220191
Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer a Springfield M1903 rifle. Adopted by the United States in 1903, the M1903 served as the nation’s standard service rifle before the introduction of the M1 Garand and continued to see extensive use during both World Wars. Renowned for its strong Mauser-inspired action, excellent accuracy, and finely adjustable barrel-mounted rear sight, the Springfield M1903 remains one of the most iconic American military rifles of the twentieth century. This example, serial number 1220191, produced in 1921 by Springfield Armory, is in superb overall condition. It retains 99% factory finish on the barrel and receiver, and has a mirror bore that rates 8/10. The barrel is marked “USMC 12-43,” indicating that it was manufactured by Sedgley in 1943 under contract with the Marine Corps as a replacement barrel. These USMC-contract Sedgley barrels feature a date stamp, such as 12-43, and a circled “S.” Moreover, this rifle features other USMC modifications such as an auxiliary gas-escape hole drilled into the left side of the receiver, along with an enlarged gas hole in the bolt. It’s also fitted with a stippled metal buttplate, which was added to improve grip in the conditions of the Pacific. The mechanics function as expected with a smooth action, magazine cutoff and two stage trigger breaking cleanly at 5 lbs. A perfect choice for any World War 2 enthusiast and a great addition to any militaria collection. Specifications and pictures are below. Thanks for looking!
