One of the firm’s signature firearms, the Westley Richards Droplock, is a gun of extraordinary strength.  Developed initially to achieve an aesthetic purpose, removing the visible side pins of the boxlock, the product of their exploration is a design fit for the finest of .410 bird guns, or for stout .700 express safari rifles.  Here we see it put to use in the versatile 16 bore.  Bright mirror bores on the 29-½” factory blued barrels, with a light decorative scroll along the breech end and a solid rib with a front silver bead, lead this lightweight shotgun into a solid follow through on your shots.  The engraved dolls head rib extension is a main element of the strength of this action. The hand detachable locks are very simple with only six component parts (see the photo’s). If you take the locks out for cleaning or to disable your gun for safety or transport, it is impossible to put back into the gun incorrectly. If you are out in wet weather or take a spill in the creek you can easily remove the lock to dry, clean, and lubricate. In addition to the genius mechanical design the aesthetics of this Drop lock are equally well conceived; the receiver is scroll engraved, including the barrel fences and top tang.  The detachable bottom plate and trigger guard are blued and have matching scrollwork.  The nib of the forend and the buttplate are bone.  The checkering pattern, tear drop behind the action, and gorgeous figure to the walnut stock all add up to a classy, English bird gun. The Westley Richards Droplock is the only action that did not follow the basic boxlock or sidelock design.  Of course, a Westley Richards Droplock is the epitome of the English side x side, with lightweight, perfect balance, and dynamic handling characteristics that all others are measured by. Taking this beauty afield will be a joy, and at only 5 pounds, 13 ounces.  it’s a gun that can be carried all day with no fatigue, and with chokes that cover a wide spectrum, you’ll be happy to have this gun at your side, and when your quarry takes wing, your Westley Richards will close the deal in style!  And a Droplock gun is just plain cool to own!   Thanks for looking, please review the photographs and specifications bellow.
